INDUSTRY TERMS
Prepaid Card
A card paid for at the point of sale permitting the
holder to buy goods and services up to the prepaid value.
ID card
Card which identifies both the bearer and
the issuer. All financial transaction cards are ID cards.
Personalization
Printing, encoding and programiling a
card with data specific to an individual cardholder.
Lamination
Using plates on a press to fuse the various layers
of a plastic card together.
Signature Panel
The area of an ID card where the cardholder
enters a signature.
Substrate
Material upon which a plastic card is printed.
ISO
International Standards Organization, central body for formation and dissemination of industry standards for all national standard bodies.
Digitizing
Conversion of non-textual data to a digital form.
Magnetic Stripe
The strip of magnetic recording material on an ID card.
IMPORTANT FILE INFORMATION
Please include any support files (TIFF or EPS images) and fonts, (both screen and printer) required to print your job.
Scans should be saved as CMYK TIFFs or EPS, 300 DPI for 133 line screen printing.
Please submit artwork on 44MB/88MB/200MB Syquest, 1.44 Floppy Disk, 100MB Zip Drive or CD.
Please design your card 1 up. Do not include the card outline if you are sending an EPS image file. If possible, avoid a card design that incorporates a border frame around the card (variations in die cutting produce undesirable results).
ART REQUIREMENTS
Macintosh files are always preferred.
Media accepted: 3 1/2" disk; 44, 88 & 200MB Syquest; 1 28MB Optical disk; Zip and Jazz disk.
Preferred programs for files:
Adobe Illustrator, Freehand, Pagemaker, or Quark XPRESS.
Other software supported: Photoshop, Corel Draw, Stuff it, Disk Doubler.
Always send a Hard Copy with your electronic file.
Please supply native files at all times including: Links, fonts, and tracking values when needed. If in doubt, please include the file.
Fonts: We have the complete Adobe library. Please supply the screen and printer fonts which are not part of the Adobe Library.
Currently all pdf, ps, and prn files can be converted to editable files. Scanned line art should be at a minimum of 1200 LPI
Photoshop files:
All files should be converted to CMYK unless grayscale, monotone, duotone, etc. EPS is our preferred format for Photoshop Files. If the file has layers, please supply that file.
All files need to be a minimum of 300 ppi for 4-color process (4CP); 240 ppi otherwise.
4 Color Process: For jobs requiring scans: Consult with your Sales Rep.
Specific Tolerances:
Minimum line thickness: . 007" positive or reverse.
Minimum size type: 3 point sans serif type for positive copy; 5 point sans serif type for reverse copy.
We will set all traps.
Bleeds: 1/8"
